There was no sweeping this one under the rug.
As rumored, Jermaine Jones was disqualified from American Idol on Wednesday -- thanks to the singer's undisclosed criminal pasts.
At the beginning of the Fox smash, host Ryan Seacrest hinted that "one of our contestants" would be departing the show thanks to "law enforcement" issues. After the "Songs from the Year You Were Born" performances were done, the show broadcast a tense confrontation between Idol producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick and Jones -- in which a whopping four oustanding warrants for his arrest were read aloud.
The arrests stemmed from Jones giving false names to cops and getting into a fight.
"It wasn't a fight, I wasn't fighting," Jones protested, explaining it was a "disagreement with one of my friends" that never became physical. He explained he kept the arrests secret because he was "scared and nervous."
Alas, as Lythgoe explained, the series is forbidden from featuring any singers with outstanding arrests.
