Last night at the 2013 Emmy Awards, Jane Lynch delivered an honest and heartfelt tribute to her late "Glee" co-star, Cory Monteith.

There was some controversy over whether or not Cory actually deserved to be honored at the Emmys. Jack Klugman's son, Adam Klugman, felt that based on his career accomplishments, his father was more deserving of the tribute. Many critics agreed with him, arguing that seasoned veterans such as Klugman and Larry Hagman were unfairly snubbed.

Adam had argued that Cory had a short career, and that he only appealed to a narrow demographic. "I don't mean to say anything disparaging about Cory, but he was a kid who had won no Emmys, and it was a self-induced tragedy."

To Jane's credit, she really showed her class throughout the controversy. She understood where Jack's son was coming from. As she commented, "I'm a huge fan of Jack Klugman. Obviously I don't choose these things. He was there at the beginning of television and he had a terrific career...I'd be upset too."

Still, the critics didn't stop Jane from giving Cory the tribute that he deserved. Her speech was straightforward and understated. She talked about his sincere nature and genuine sweetness. As she commented, "all that warmth and that charm, that open-hearted quality that we loved in Cory was no act."

Possibly in reference to the critics who commented on his struggles with substance abuse, Jane commented that "Cory was a beautiful soul. He was not perfect, which many of us can relate to."

One of the most unfortunate aspects of the "Glee" star's passing was that he was never able to achieve his full potential in his career. Given his talent and promise, could he have had a long career and gone on to win multiple Emmys? We'll never know. As his mother pointed out, "If he had lived 30 more years he would have accomplished much more."

As Jane reflected, "Tonight we mourn the loss for all he was, and all he could have been. To a generation that loved Cory so, please know this gifted and wonderful young man was worthy of your love."

Cory was absolutely deserving of his tribute at the Emmys, and Jane was the perfect person to honor him.
