Hudson arrives at Chicago trial over family deaths

CHICAGO (AP) — A court official says Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson has arrived at a Chicago courthouse for the start of the trial of a man accused of killing her mother, brother and nephew.

Courtroom spokesman Terry Sullivan says Hudson is in the building, but will not be in court for opening statements. He didn't elaborate.

The 30-year-old actress and singer is among a list of 300 potential witnesses who could be called.

William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister, is charged with first-degree murder in the 2008 slayings. Prosecutors say Balfour shot them in 2008 in a jealous rage because his estranged wife, Julia Hudson, had a new boyfriend.

Julia Hudson has said her sister screamed when she told her about the murders.
