Howard Stern’s longtime on-air sidekick, Robin Quivers, appeared on his SiriusXM radio show Monday morning to reveal not only that she had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer — but that she had beaten it.

Quivers, 61, was diagnosed in 2012, when her doctors discovered a tumor inside her pelvis, a condition apparently so rare that they had not seen it before, she said on air Monday.

“They were saying that they might have to remove my colon,” Quivers said. “I’ve always been a quality-of-life type of person, and I didn’t want to live in a certain state.”

Fortunately, she found a group of doctors who had seen her condition before, and they were actively pursuing a cure.

In May 2012, she underwent an operation to remove the mass. It worked, she said: “About three months ago, I go into my doctor’s office. She just looks at everything. She goes, ‘You’re cured.’”

“I’ll tell you how serious this was. I was already making funeral arrangements,” Stern told his audience. “Not to make light of this situation. I didn’t know what was going on. It was just the most awful, awful thing ever.”

“It was sounding very dire,” Quivers added.

Quivers has not been to Stern’s New York City radio studio for over a year due to her struggle but did her bit on the show from home while undergoing treatment.
