How Jessica Simpson spent her 32nd birthday

Jessica Simpson took a break from the gym on Tuesday to celebrate her 32nd birthday with those she loves: daughter Maxwell, fiance Eric Johnson, her sister Ashlee, and best friend CaCee Cobb. The group spent more than three hours on the patio at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel drinking champagne, eating, and singing “Happy Birthday” to Simpson, of course. "There was a lot of laughter coming from the table and everyone looked very joyous," a source tells Us Weekly.

On the way out of the hotel, Johnson carried his 10-week-old daughter in her car seat and strapped her in right next to her mom in the backseat. Simpson, looking gorgeous in a green top and gold hoop earrings, was photographed smiling at and doting on little Maxwell before the family drove off.

Later that night, she celebrated once again with more friends and family at a backyard dinner party held at her L.A. home. According to People, Shabby Chic Couture decorated the outdoor soiree, where guests dined on gnocchi with brown butter sage sauce, pappardelle with yellow tomato sauce, short ribs, and pan-seared snapper. Instead of birth cake, everyone satisfied their sweet tooth with s'mores, pudding pies in mini mason jars, and banana brown betties with ginger snap crumble. "Eric made a wonderful toast," a friend tells the mag.

The “Fashion Star” mentor hasn’t been seen much since she gave birth on May 1, except for the occasional jaunt to the gym to burn off the reported 70 pounds she gained while pregnant. After stories were published that Weight Watchers – who is reportedly paying Simpson $4 million to shed her baby weight using their food system – was putting pressure on the new mom to snap back into shape in little time, she was quick to clarify that is not the case. “I'm trying to be as healthy as I can be for myself and I feel great!” Simpson tweeted on June 27.

In a previous Facebook post she boasted about her weight loss plan. "The cool thing about the program is that it focuses on healthy habits for the long-term (and I can still indulge in my guilty pleasures every now and then, too)," she wrote on May 30. "I have actually gotten a group of friends together who are going to be doing it with me."
