Welcome to the wonderful world of Twitter, Hillary Clinton! The former Secretary of State took the plunge and joined the social media site on Monday, June 10, gaining more than 82,000 followers within the first few hours of going public with her verified account -- with just a single tweet.
"Thanks for the inspiration," she tweeted at the pair. "I'll take it from here…" Clinton also used a hashtag for the special occasion: #tweetsfromhillary.
The 65-year-old politician even poked fun at herself in her bio, calling herself a "wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD." Her avatar is a nod to the Texts From Hillary meme.
At present, despite her huge following, Clinton is only following four accounts, including that of her husband Bill and daughter Chelsea.
"Does Twitter have a family share plan? Great to be here with Hillary and Chelsea," the former president tweeted shortly after his wife's first message. "Looking forward to #tweetsfromhillary."
Clinton's daughter likewise embraced her mother's new online presence. "Welcome Mom!" she tweeted.
Bill joined Twitter back in April with his official handle @billclinton. At the time, he worried aloud about the dangers of starting a Twitter account during an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report.
"What if you tweet and nobody tweets back?" he pondered aloud during the interview. "There's nothing worse than a friendless tweeter."
