Almost three decades later, Harrison Ford is considering returning to the Star Wars franchise.

Entertainment Weekly cited a "highly placed source" connected to the recently announced Star Wars Episode VII as the bearer of great news. "Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he's upbeat about it, all three of them are," the source said, referring to Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Ford's supposed "upbeat" attitude comes as a surprise to many fans, since the actor has shunned all but one Stars Wars event and cast reunion in the past 29 years.

Since last playing the space smuggler Han Solo in 1983, Ford has gone on to become a Hollywood legend, starring in Blade Runner, The Fugitive and another beloved film franchise, Indiana Jones.

The 70-year-old actor is not expected to proceed with any contract negotiations until the film as a script and a director. Star Wars: Episode VII is set to hit theaters in 2015.
