Actor Robert Downey, Jr. turned 48 on April 4. The Academy Award-winning actor has always been considered one of the best in the business. He descended into drug and prison hell in the mid-90s before becoming clean and sober in the mid-2000s. Now Downey is back on top and just as good of an actor as he always was. He also has starred in some huge hits, such as the "Iron Man" series. What are five things he has to look forward to this year?

Exton Elias Downey

His son, Exton, with his wife, film producer wife Susan Downey, was born in February 2012. Downey's son is a great source of pride for the actor, and he has the growth and development of his son to look forward to. Fans wonder how the Downey pair came up with the name for their son. "My wife's great uncle was kind of eccentric. He lives in Madison, Wisconsin. When he was in the fourth grade he realized he didn't have a middle name, so he changed his name [to include Exton]," the "Iron Man" actor said.

Susan Downey

The 39-year-old Team Downey film producer has been married to "The Avengers" star since 2005. The two met on the set of "Gothika." Theirs is an example of a successful celebrity marriage, and Robert credits Susan for pulling him out of his drug abuse. "There's no understanding for me of the bigger picture in real time in a hands-on way without her. Because it was the perfect, perfect, perfect matching of personalities and gifts," said the actor. Continued happiness with Susan is something he has to look forward to.

The Hollywood actor is currently promoting "Iron Man 3" to be released in May 2013. The star reprises the role of Tony Stark in the superhero film series, and has more success and money to look forward to as a result. The "Iron Man" series, as well as the movie "The Avengers," have pulled in millions and millions of dollars, and that means millions and millions of dollars in Downer's bank account. Not bad for an actor who almost lost it all due to substance abuse.

The guy who plays billionaire Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, credits his wife for becoming drug free, but he also cites therapy, meditation, 12-step recovery programs, and things like yoga. Unlike stars such as Lindsay Lohan, Downey is clean and sober, since 2003, and has come back in a huge way. Assuming he can stay on the same path, he has lots of drug-free years to look forward to.

Good movies

"I've been in big movies before that sucked and you kind of feel dirty when you see them over succeed for how good they weren't," said Robert. However, you can count on the star, who has won a large variety of awards over the years, to appear in more critically acclaimed movies that he can be proud of. For example, Downey, Jr. wants to develop an episode of Charlie Brooker's "Black Mirror" into a feature film, and he has bought up the film rights, beating out George Clooney's attempt to get the rights. In the episode, it featured "a time in the near future where everyone has a memory chip embedded that records all their actions, resulting in terrifying consequences when users look back at moments of which they can be less than proud."
