Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba both recently made themselves more accessible to their fans by setting up special opportunities for their admirers to meet them. But would it be better to score one of Gwyneth's Groupons or to win Jessica's baby shower contest?
Gwyneth's Goop-tastic trip to New York might sound like an amazing deal since spa treatments and a fancy dinner are included, but it's not cheap to spend time with the Oscar-winning actress. Getting the chance to watch the advice diva demonstrate her cooking skills comes with a hefty $2,000 price tag.
Unfortunately, you're already out of luck if you'd like to see Gwyneth cooking a meal while extolling the benefits of gluten-free flour -- her special Groupon deal already sold out. According to ET Online, 60 tickets went on sale at midnight on May 15 that included "an all-inclusive trip to New York for two with roundtrip airfare, transportation, a two-night stay at the Double Tree, spa treatments, dinner for two at the swanky Bistro La Promenade and the crown jewel, a private meet-and-greet and cooking demonstration with People magazine's 'Most Beautiful Woman In The World.'" But will "bad mutha" Gwyneth sing along to rap songs while she cooks just like she does at home?
While Gwyneth is asking fans to pay $2,000 to fly out to NYC to watch her cook, her fellow lifestyle guru Jessica Alba is traveling the country and throwing baby showers for a few lucky contest winners. The actress chose four moms-to-be who live the health-conscious, eco-friendly lifestyle that is encouraged by her business venture, The Honest Company. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, one lucky future mother walked away with a swag bag that included more than $10,000 worth of goodies and gift cards. Right now we're thinking that we'd rather hang with Jess than Gwyneth.
Paltrow and Alba are often pitted against one another because they both like to offer their fans lifestyle advice. Gwyneth has her cookbook and her Goop website, while Jessica wrote a book titled The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You. However, Jess has made sure to point out that she and Gwyn are very different people. She told the Daily News, "Gwyneth Paltrow probably lives a very similar lifestyle, but I didn't grow up with a bunch of money, so my tips are much more grounded: Repurposing things and making things at home."
So Alba might be better to hang out with since she'd offer advice that's more wallet-friendly. She tells her fans to buy vintage items instead of new ones to save money, whereas Gwyneth thinks that a thimble-shaped shot glass that costs $950 is a must-have item. But Gwyneth might be more entertaining to be around, especially if she's had a martini or two -- who doesn't want to hear her talk about her adventures going commando and suffering a razor emergency yet again? However, Jess also has some fun tales to tell, like the time she and her boyfriend drank Wild Turkey in sixth grade. Sadly, they probably didn't have a $950 shot glass to pour it in.
So if you were given the chance to hang out with one of these lifestyle gurus, would you rather listen to Paltrow's recommendations for razors that cost over a grand (you just know that she's found some by now), or would you prefer to pose for fun Street Fighter photos with Alba after getting advice that's a little more budget-friendly?
