Gwyneth Paltrow recently unveiled a new product line called The Goop Collection, and of course one of the first items that the actress is trying to peddle to the plebeians desperate to be like her is already raising eyebrows because of its absurdity - a $90 plain white T-shirt.
It's supposedly better than your average tee because of its shorter length and the black piping on the shoulders, but thrifty fashionistas can still get a package of T-shirts; a pair of scissors; and black permanent marker for a fraction of the cost.
But Gwyneth's Goop shirt is relatively inexpensive when compared to some of the items from other celebrity clothing lines.
Lindsay Lohan's slashed-up 6126 leggings (named after Marilyn Monroe's birth date) can cost up to $132. Sadly the expensive strips of material have been one of Linds' smarter business ventures.
Then there's Lauren Conrad's plain tank dress from her first clothing collection - it cost more than twice as much as Goop's T-shirt at $225, but it certainly didn't look like it was made from material that was twice as expensive (and Gwyneth's tee is probably more stylish). Unsurprisingly, Lauren's boring line was pulled from store shelves fairly quickly.
Then there are Kanye West's odd overpriced shoes. His creations for Giuseppe Zanotti look like they are constructed out of high school prom heels, rolled-up gym socks, and fake pearls. The ugly heels are luxury items that only the Kardashians of the world can afford with their $5,810 price tag, so it should come as no surprise that Kim Kardashian was photographed pairing them with an awful fur vest.
But Kanye can't top the Olsen twins when it comes to high fashion at a high price - last year Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen designed a $39,000 alligator backpack. You might be having a good laugh thinking that no idiot would pay that much for a dead animal fashioned into a fashion accessory, but this just isn't the case - the bag flew off store shelves. Maybe Kanye will still be able to hunt one down for Kim.
So what do you think of celebs selling expensive clothing? Are they insulting their fans with these unaffordable items?
