Giuliana Rancic has happily opened up about the surrogate mother that gave birth to her son Edward last month. The TV host appeared as a guest on "Today" and discussed Delphine, the recently revealed surrogate that helped Giuliana and husband Bill. "We're very close with her," said the star. "She's such a wonderful person and she gave us the greatest gift in the world." Over the years, a number of stars have opened up about the use of surrogates to deliver children. Here are a few celebrity couples that have been happy to share their experiences.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick
The power couple welcomed twin daughters through a surrogate in 2009. The two, who had a son in 2002, decided to enlist help after several failed attempts to have another child. "Well, you know, we've been trying to expand our family for a number of years and we actually have explored a variety of ways of doing so," she said. "This was one of the things we discussed with seriousness that had real possibilities for us." Unfortunately, the surrogacy drew negative press when an ugly tabloid scandal unfolded shortly after the happy event.
Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance
The "Waiting to Exhale" star has been married to her husband since 1997, but the road to children wasn't easy. After years of failed attempts at improving fertility, the couple sought surrogacy for the birth of their twins in 2006. A year after the birth, the happy parents joined Oprah to discuss the whole process. "She began to tell me about the idea of surrogacy," said the actress when hearing about surrogacy from a friend. "The more we learned about it, the more we began to think that perhaps this was an answer for us."
Kelsey Grammer and Camille Grammer
The "Cheers" star might have had a bitter divorce from his ex-wife in 2010, but things weren't always so rough. In fact, the actor and the reality star welcomed two children through the same surrogate mother. They were both open about meeting the woman through the Center for Surrogate Parenting, and were happy enough with the process to go through it twice. "I felt very relaxed with them," said the surrogate. "We decided at that first meeting that it was a go, that we would try for it."
