Former ‘Saved by the Bell’ star reacts to Lark Voorhies’ bipolar revelation

Lark Voorhies may be in denial that she is suffering from bipolar disorder, as her mother has revealed, but her former “Saved by the Bell” co-star Dustin Diamond says he noticed something was off with her nearly a decade ago. In an interview with People magazine, the actor who played Screech – the nerd in love with Voorhies’ Lisa Turtle – says when the two reunited in 2003 to record a commentary for the popular show’s box set, he was not greeted by the same girl he once knew.

"I was always used to playing off of her and looking into her eyes," says Diamond of Voorhies. He adds that this time, she would stare into space, much like she did during the two interviews she did with the magazine. According to People, she was so out of it during the first, they had to reschedule a second. (Voorhies, 38, maintains that she was quiet at times simply because she was praying in her mind.)

Last year, the two old friends came together again to make the indie film, “Little Creeps,” and once again Voorhies was a Iittle off. Diamond explains that she kept leaving the set and “causing tension” with the cast and crew. "Part of me is putting it out of my mind and not thinking about it, but the other part is that of concern," he says. "Man, I hope she's alright."

Another concerned former co-star is Mario Lopez, who played hunky jock A.C. Slater on “Saved by the Bell.” Although he didn’t talk about Voorhies’ current state of mind, he fondly remembers “a sweet, pretty, cool teenaged girl. [She] came from a real nice family – close with her mom. She carried herself like a little lady. I was a big fan of hers. We got along great."
