The Following's Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) may be locked up in federal prison, but that has never stopped him from acting as puppet master for his legions of murderous devotees — and on Monday's episode, he raises the stakes even more.
In the exclusive sneak peek below, Joe issues a "statement" (aka an excerpt from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death") through his attorney.
"What he's doing in that statement is activating a plan," creator Kevin Williamson teases. "He's sending a message that triggers the next three or four episodes. That's how diabolical this is."
It's a coded message to one of Carroll's followers — but who? That's the question on the minds of Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and FBI agent Debra Parker (Annie Parisse), who are trying to rein in the cult. And based on the clip, it's someone viewers haven't seen before.
