Olivia Holt from "Kickin' It" is busting out of her martial arts role and taking on a new challenge in the Disney Channel movie "Girl Vs. Monster" premiering on October 12. In the film, Holt plays Skylar Lewis a young girl who discovers on Halloween night that she comes from a long line of monster hunters. But when she sneaks out of the house to go to a party, she unknowingly releases all the creatures her ancestors have caught through the years. It is her job to return them safely to captivity. Viewers who know Holt from "Kickin' It" are aware that she is up for the physical demands of a role like this. But in a recent exclusive interview she revealed a few things fans may not know about the young actress.

1. She's a Lot Like Her 'Girl Vs. Monster' Character

Besides acting, singing and playing chess, Holt is also a cheerleader and competed as a gymnast for over six years. She said this is one of the things she has in common with Skylar. She stated, "We're both really athletic. She did gymnastics for a really long time and so did I." But the similarities don't stop there. "She doesn't really care what anyone else thinks and that's really cool about her... I'm one of these people who doesn't really care what anyone else thinks and I love to have a positive attitude."

2. She's a Not a Great Dancer

With all the talents under her belt (including a black one in martial arts) she does have one skill she feels she needs to work on. "I would love to learn how to dance. I can pick up choreography pretty well. But when you're dancing with your friends, I can't do that. I'm not a freestyler. It just doesn't come naturally to me. Clapping is my go to dance."

3. She's an Aspiring Writer/Director

While she loves acting and singing best, on the set of "Kickin' It" she has been able to explore other TV careers. She noted, "I'm learning how to work the camera. I'm with the directors learning how they work. I'm also up in the writer's room watching them and getting ideas." When asked if writing or directing were something she'd consider pursuing she said, "I would love to do that… I watch how hard they work and sometimes it's like, 'Man I want to be up here…' I think it would be really fun to do that someday."

4. Her Favorite Halloween Costume Was Little Bo Peep

With Halloween around the corner she plans to dress up this year, but has not decided what the outfit will be. She did recall her favorite costume from another Halloween. "When I was really little, I was Little Bo Beep. I had the cane and the hat and everything. It was cute. I remember begging my mom for a sheep because that's what I really wanted to make my costume a little bit better."

5. She Admires Taylor Swift

She has a few songs on the soundtrack for "Girl vs. Monster" and hopes to continue writing and put out an album some day. As a singer-songwriter there are many current musicians she admires. "I really look up to Taylor Swift and Colbie Caillat… Everyone loves music that they can mellow down to but also the music that they can rock out to and Bruno Mars does a really great job at doing that. He has a really unique voice and I really love him."

Watch "Girl Vs. Monster" on Friday October 12 at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. Central on the Disney Channel.
