Hollywood is full of young fathers, and we love to see the doting dads spending time playing with their kids. While only time will tell if today's celebrity tots will grow up to follow in their fathers' footsteps, some of the brightest stars of yesteryear have sons who have done just that. While it's not uncommon for celeb offspring to dabble in film, it's not every day that the son of a famous actor becomes successful in his own right. With Father's Day just around the corner, here are a few celebrity sons who grew up to become movie stars just like their dads.
Acting legend Kirk Douglas could become the head of an acting dynasty. Renowned for his roles in films like "Spartacus," "Paths of Glory," and "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," Kirk was nominated for three Oscars during his lengthy film career. His son, Michael Douglas, went on to win an Academy Award for his role in "Wall Street" before adding "Basic Instinct" and "Wonder Boys" to his lengthy resume. Perhaps the pair's most memorable role was "It Runs in the Family," which starred both Kirk and Michael, as well as Michael's son Cameron.
Former "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen might not have tiger's blood in his veins, but he did inherit his acting chops from his father, Martin Sheen. Martin, who starred in "The West Wing," is also father to "Breakfast Club" and "Young Guns" alum Emilio Estevez. With two sons following in his acting footsteps, the eldest Mr. Sheen has done a great job of encouraging and guiding his kids!
Veteran actor Donald Sutherland recently signed on to play President Snow in the upcoming "Hunger Games" film, adding to his already extensive resume. His son, Kiefer Sutherland, became a household name starring as Jack Bauer in the hit TV series "24." The two have collaborated on two films so far, "Max Dugan Returns" (1983) and "A Time to Kill" (1996).
Lloyd Bridges passed away in 1998, but he left behind a legacy, both through the films he made and his two sons, Jeff and Beau. Best known for his work in "Airplane," "Sea Hunt," and "High Noon," Lloyd's son Jeff won the 2010 Oscar for his role in "Crazy Heart," and was nominated in 2011 for the remake of "True Grit." Lloyd's older son, Beau, has starred in films "Max Payne," and "The Fabulous Baker Boys," as well as the TV series, "My Name is Earl."
Actor James Brolin is most often associated with his roles in the TV series "Marcus Welby, M.D." and "Hotel," but has also starred in such films as "Catch Me If You Can" and "The Amityville Horror." His son, Josh Brolin, has made a name for himself with blockbusters like "No Country for Old Men," "True Grit," and "Milk." James is currently married to actress and singer Barbra Streisand.
