The Oscar nominee will have a pivotal role in the 10th episode of the season, which finds the BAU tackling a case in a strange small town in Arizona. Does "pivotal" mean unsub? Dourif, of course, is no stranger to creepy, villainous roles, voicing Chucky in the Child's Play franchise and playing murderers on The X Files, Star Trek: Voyager and Babylon 5 and in The Exorcist III.

This will be the fourth time Gubler has stepped behind the camera, after having helmed one episode in each of the past three seasons. Gubler told TVGuide.com earlier this summer that he was looking forward to directing again. "I would happily direct every episode if I could," he said.

Besides Chucky, Dourif's best known onscreen role is Billy Bibbit, the timid, stuttering and suicidal patient in Cuckoo's Nest who loses his virginity thanks to the help of Jack Nicholson's McMurphy. Dourif won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for his performance and was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. He received an Emmy nomination in 2004 for his turn as Doc Cochran on Deadwood. His other credits include The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Ragtime and Mississippi Burning.

Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on CBS.
