EXCLUSIVE: Alicia Keys and The Weeknd Will Perform at the BET Awards

Alicia Keys and The Weeknd have been added to the star-studded lineup for Sunday's BET Awards -- and we can't wait!

The Weeknd is up for three awards at this year's ceremony, including Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, as well as the Centric Award and the Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice Award for his smash single from Fifty Shades of Grey, "Earned It." Meanwhile, the 25-year-old is well on his way to that coveted Song of Summer title with his latest, "Can't Feel My Face," which has quickly become an inescapable hit on Top 40 radio.

Keys, who welcomed a son with husband Swizz Beatz in December, is due for some new music anytime now. Her last album, Girl on Fire, was released back in 2012, scoring her a BET Awards nomination for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.

According to Keys' social media, the 34-year-old has been hard at work in the studio coming up with new material.

"This album is more about the concept, the thought I'm trying to get across, where in the past it's been more about melody," Keys told Women's Wear Daily last summer. "This time it's more about what we're going through as human beings. We all experience similar things. I find that the world puts us in these boxes where we're only allowed to be one way -- like, 'to succeed as a career woman, you need to do it this way,' or 'to be a gay man, you have to be this way.' First of all, we're so much more complex than that. It's about breaking down those boundaries. The songs concentrate on concepts like that. As human beings, we like to identify with something, and as for me, I love people with a strong point of view."

And that is why we love Alicia!

Another powerful lady we love? Janet Jackson, who will hit the BET Awards stage to accept the inaugural Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award. Paying tribute to the star are Ciara, Jason Derulo and Tinashe, who will perform a dance tribute in her honor. Also on the can't-miss performers line-up? Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj, among many more. (No, seriously - so many performers.)

The 15th annual BET Awards will be hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The show will air live on BET on Sunday, June 28, at 8pm ET/PT.

UPDATE: An earlier version of this story stated that Keys and The Weeknd would perform together. They will, in fact, perform separate sets.
