Emma Watson got to take part in a staged break-in

Emma Watson plays a member of a ring of Hollywood thieves in "The Bling Ring," so she definitely had to ditch her good girl image for the film. To help Emma and her costars get ready to go bad by robbing Paris Hilton's house, director Sofia Coppola came up with a creative idea -- she had the cast burglarize a real house.

Here's what Coppola told Vanity Fair: "I had a friend leave their house in the Hollywood Hills for an evening. I had [the cast] sneak in and take things and just do an improv like that. They had to find a way in and then they had a list of things -- like handbags and stuff -- that they had to get."

However, according to actress Katie Chang, some of the cast members didn't make very good cat burglars. Here's what she told HuffPost Entertainment: "Taissa [Farmiga] was not even helping. Her character in the film is so wild and does whatever she wants, so Taissa was getting food and lounging and laughing. Claire [Julien] was grabbing anything that looked pretty and that she wanted."

Coppola's pal isn't the only one who sacrificed a house -- part of the movie was actually filmed at Paris' place, and the heiress even makes a cameo as herself. Hilton's house was one of the celebrity homes robbed by the real-life Bling Ring that stole from a list of stars that also includes Orlando Bloom and Lindsay Lohan.

However, Emma didn't study Paris' old reality shows to play a reality show star (Emma's character in the movie is based on "Pretty Wild" star Alexis Neiers). According to The Wrap, this is what she said about how she researched playing a Hollywood party girl: "I watched a lot of 'Keeping up With the Kardashians' and 'The Hills,' and I tried to understand the psychology of this kind of girl as much as possible."

During a featurette for the film, Emma described how she had to change her style to look pretty wild. "All of my usual fashion rules went out the window -- visible cleavage, very short skirts." She also told MTV News that her stolen style included visible bra straps, neons, and Uggs.

In real life, Emma definitely isn't a fan of her character's flashy and trashy way of dressing. According to Us Weekly, this is what she told French Elle magazine last year: "My problem is that I am a little bit boring. I don't wear designer bags or big sunglasses." She also recently told The Daily Mail that her closet is nothing like Kim Kardashian's. "I probably own about eight pairs of shoes, max."

However, this doesn't mean that Emma never gets to wear eye-catching clothing. "I get lent all of these beautiful clothes, but a bit like Cinderella they all go back at midnight and I just go home and put my jeans on," she told the Mail. So she probably didn't get to keep her Daisy Dukes and bra top from "The Bling Ring," and it's also likely that she didn't go home with the skimpy, "Pretty Woman"-inspired dress that she wore on the May cover of GQ U.K.

Emma told GQ U.K. that she hated her superficial, reality show-inspired character in "The Bling Ring," but it looks like she's found the perfect palate cleanser -- she told USA Today that she'd love to try theater next.

We're kind of digging the idea of "Bling Ring: The Musical," but could Emma sing in that awful Valley girl accent?
