While sitting down with Anderson Cooper , actress Edie Falco discussed her children, and ultimately her decision to adopt. Falco has two kids, Anderson and Macy, both of whom she adopted when they were still infants. The "Nurse Jackie" star told Cooper that when she made the decision to have children she " was single and the idea to adopt came to me. I just knew at a certain point it was time to raise kids."
Falco went on to tell Cooper that she's very frank about the adoption process with her children. She says that her son may even be under the impression that every family is made up of adopted children. Edie also spoke to the instant attachment one feels when adopting a baby. "The second you are handed a newborn, it is yours. It doesn't matter what body it came out of. I've never felt more strongly about anything in my life."
Falco is one of many stars who have chosen to adopt their children when starting a family. Here's a look at a few of the more notable adoptive Hollywood parents.
Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise - Yes, it seems like a lifetime ago, but at one time Tom and Nicole were one of the hottest young couples in showbiz. The pair were married in 1990, and two years later they adopted their first child, daughter Isabella. Three years after that, they adopted their son Connor.
Mia Farrow - When it comes to single celebrity mothers adopting children, no one may ever come close to Farrow's numbers. All told, Mia has adopted eleven children. Five of them she adopted while with husband Andre Previn or long-time boyfriend Woody Allen. She's adopted six children as a single mother.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt - If there's one woman who could one day challenge Farrow's adoption record, it could be Jolie. The "Tomb Raider" star had already adopted a boy and a girl by the time she and Pitt got together. The couple has one biological son together, and they adopted another son, Pax, from Vietnam.
Rosie O'Donnell - The talk-show host and comedian has four children all told, and three of them she adopted as a single mother. Rosie began adopting children because she says that she has a history of alcoholism and cancer in her genes that she didn't wish to pass down to her children.
