In a new interview with People, Pinsky, 55, reveals that the surgery came after a Caribbean vacation left him feeling ill. Per his wife's suggestion, Pinsky had an examination that lead to a biopsy, but even after the initial results came back, Pinsky chose to hold off on having immediate surgery. As a doctor, Pinsky was aware of the potential side-effects, which include incontinence and impotence.

Today, Pinsky has made a complete recovery, but he remembered his thoughts during that time, telling People, "Lo and behold, I have cancer. I was doing [The CW daytime show] Lifechangers and my HLN show was going. My wife and I had this great relationship, very active sexually. This could screw everything up. It was a terrible feeling."

"I'm cancer-free," the host of HLN's Dr. Drew on Call continued. "The erectile function is normal, sex drive is normal, bladder works normally. And I don't have to worry about prostate cancer."
