Talk about a cheap (wedding) date! After a three-year engagement, Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell finally tied the knot, but they took the economical route. During an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the "Parenthood" star revealed that his wedding ceremony cost only $142-including gas!

Shepard told Jimmy Kimmel: "It was just Kristen and I at this lonely courthouse, so they brought us this cake afterwards." The cake's sentiment? "World's Worst Wedding."

Shepard also revealed that it was actually Kimmel's star-studded wedding extravaganza last summer that convinced him to do things in a low-key way: "There were helicopters overhead. It felt like an episode of M*A*S*H," he said of the late night host's wedding. "Not that I was counting your money, but I was counting your money at this thing. It was flying out the windows…So we went to the Beverly Hills Courthouse, and all in, with fuel to get there, $142 out the door."

While a wedding that only costs a few bills is definitely no frills, sometimes less is more -- even in Hollywood. Think we're kidding? Check out these unconventional celeb wedding stories.

Britney Spears' 2004 wedding to Kevin Federline was supposed to be a lavish affair at Santa Barbara's Bacara resort, but at the last minute the couple scrapped those plans and opted for a small ceremony for just a few close friends and family members. According to Time, the groom gave his attendants white tracksuits with the word "Pimp" written on the back, and chicken wings were served at the reception. Later, it was in da club for a night of clubbing. So, why didn't this marriage last?

Forget the poofy wedding gown. For her weddings to Tommy Lee and Kid Rock, Pamela Anderson wore white - bikinis, that is. The "Baywatch" beauty wed Lee in 1995 just four days after meeting him, so she didn't exactly have time to plan a big shindig. Instead, the couple tied the knot in Cancun and got ring finger tattoos. But when Anderson married Kid Rock in 2006, she donned a Swarovski crystal-encrusted tiara and a white veil along with diamond studded Jimmy Choo shoes for the ceremony, while Rock wore a white tee and a Tigers baseball cap. Still, it wasn't long before Mrs. Rock changed into a skimpy white bikini, according to MTV.

The groom wore Wranglers -- and that was just for starters at country music superstars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert's 2011 wedding. The ceremony took place in a lantern-lit barn, according to E! News, and the reception hall was decked out with hunting and fishing gear. The brown cake was meant to look like worn leather, and the bride even teased that she harvested the main course (deer meat) herself!

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden had a big guest list for their 2010 wedding. Like, really big. An elephant was actually on the invite list. According to Us Weekly, Richie talked about her dream wedding five years earlier on Larry King's talk show, and even then she was talking pachyderms. "I want to have a very, very big wedding," she said in 2005. "I want it to be very extravagant. I want like hundreds of people and elephants...and a horse and carriage. Because elephants are really good luck, and they're beautiful animals." Sure, but do they make good wedding guests?
