Could Christian Bale snag a Golden Globe nomination?

Awards season is already here, but things will kick into high gear when the Golden Globe nominations are revealed on December 13. Whenever the nominations are revealed, there are usually a few surprises. One movie that might snag a surprising nod is "The Dark Knight Rises." Despite its critical and commercial success, "The Dark Knight Rises" is an underdog when it comes to major awards. But if there's ever going to be a superhero movie that is honored in the major categories, this one is it. Here are a few Golden Globe categories in which "The Dark Knight Rises" deserves consideration.

The movie deserves a Best Picture nomination

Outside of special effects honors, superhero movies are typically get snubbed during awards season. However, there is a good chance that "The Dark Knight Rises" will be the exception. The film has already been named as one of the best movies of the year on several lists, including one released from the prestigious American Film Institute. It's received near-universal acclaim from critics, and it was a huge hit at the box office. "The Dark Knight," this film's predecessor, achieved all of those things and didn't earn a Golden Globe nomination. However, voters might finally decide to honor Christopher Nolan's entire franchise. That previously happened when "The Return of the King" took home multiple Best Picture wins as the final chapter of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Several actors deserve recognition

The incredible cast of "The Dark Knight Rises" deserves some recognition from the Golden Globes. If you're looking for a contender, take your pick from Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, or Anne Hathaway. All four actors nailed their performances, and they made this film much more than a visual pleasure. Of all the stars, the most likely to land a nomination might be Hathaway. She's already earned a few honors for her turn as Catwoman, and there's a chance she could follow in Heath Ledger's footsteps as the next Batman villain to win awards. Of course, Tom Hardy deserves some love for his role as Bane. Despite having half of his face blocked for the entire movie, the actor gives a scene-stealing performance that ranks up there with any we've seen this year.

Christopher Nolan should be a lock for a Best Director nomination

Is Christopher the best director in the business right now? With his string of brilliant movies, there is case to be made for that statement. His fantastic storytelling ability combines with his keen visual style to make all of his movies a treat for all audiences. His work in "The Dark Knight Rises" is a symbol of how talented he really is. Despite running nearly three hours in length, the movie never feels like its dragging. That's a testament to a director that knows exactly what he's doing. The Golden Globes finally warmed up to Christopher a couple of years ago when they nominated him for "Inception." Now it's time for him to be rewarded for his amazing work in giving us what might be the greatest movie trilogy ever.
