ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" will mark its 300th episode this week, and the star-studded celebration will feature the return of 22 popular pro dancers, including Dmitry Chaplin, Chelsie Hightower, Louis Van Amstel, and Anna Trebunskaya.

But what about "DWTS" fan favorite Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who returned to his old stomping grounds a few weeks ago to trade moves with ex-fiancé Karina Smirnoff?

The ABC press release for the celebratory 300th episode doesn't list Maks as a participant, which is a shocker considering that the Ukrainian dancer has been a huge part of the show, competing in 13 out of 16 seasons. While he took a break from the TV dance competition this season, Maks' fiery cameo last month in Len Goodman's Side-by-Side challenge, and his opening number with Karina, were well received by diehard fans of the long-running show.

Seems as though the celebration wouldn't be complete without Maks, who once famously proclaimed that "DWTS" was "his" show!

Maks recently talked to Access Hollywood about his favorite moment from his long stint on "Dancing With the Stars."

"Every moment that I was on it," he said. "There were some forgetful moments… Everything is your past. Your past is what you are. This has been my last seven and a half years. It's been an amazing ride. Looking forward to the next ride."

Of course, the "DWTS" powers that be may just be keeping a Maks cameo under wraps. With 22 pros returning, it would be a glaring omission not to include him. Then again, if Maks was invited and for some reason had to decline, it's likely that he'll be mentioned or tributed in some way.

Either way, Tuesday night's celebration is sure to be a ballroom blast.

Season 16 pro dancer Cheryl Burke - who was eliminated in Week 5 with partner D.L. Hughley-- tweeted, "Early morning rehearsal for the 300th episode. It's truly been an amazing experience being a part of almost all 300 episodes!"

In an interview with "Good Day L.A.," host Tom Bergeron talked about how production of the show has changed since its debut in 2005.

"Derek Hough did a dance [last week] that was a homage to Fred Astaire… where he was in a rotating room on a 7 ton gimbal and dancing so it looked like he was defying gravity, in one continuous take. And just the lighting effects and the production quality of the show has improved with leaps and bounds."

We have to agree! Check out a clip from Season 1 here. Talk about low budget!

You can catch "Dancing with the Stars 300th episode celebration on Tuesday, May 14 at 9/8c on ABC.
