The CW Sets Fall Premiere Dates

Once again the CW is launching its fall lineup in October, avoiding the blitz of broadcast premiere week and the big returns of existing series/initial sampling of new ones on the Big 4. For the first time this year, the CW will keep its rollout very compact, creating a sort of “CW premiere week” during the week of October 6 when all but one night, Monday, will open for business. That includes the return of The Vampire Diaries for its first season without original lead Nina Dobrev on Thursday, October 8.

The network’s new Monday comedy lineup of sophomore Jane The Virgin and the CW’s only new fall series, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,

will debut two weeks later, on October 19. Because Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was originally piloted for Showtime as a half-hour series, the show is undergoing retooling and will have to do extra shooting for the existing pilot, including recasting a role. To accommodate that, its production start is a little later than normal, and the network is giving it some breathing room with an October 19 premiere. The CW’s two other new series, Containment (formerly Cordon) and DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, will debut later in the season.

For a fourth year, the CW will kick off the new season with an exclusive telecast of the iHeartradio Music Festival, airing for two hours on September 29 and September 30. Here is a rundown of the CW’s fall premiere dates:
