Chicago's Goodman Theatre to stage 'Jungle Book'

CHICAGO (AP) — "The Jungle Book" will be the latest Disney musical to make its way to the stage.

Chicago's Goodman Theatre announced Tuesday that it will debut a musical adaptation of "The Jungle Book" in June 2013. Tony Award-winner Mary Zimmerman will direct the world premiere. "The Jungle Book" chronicles the adventures of a young boy growing up in the animal kingdom. It is based on Rudyard Kipling's children's stories and the 1967 Disney film.

The musical will be part of Goodman's 2012-2013 season, which was announced Tuesday. The season will include a revival of Tennessee Williams' "Sweet Bird of Youth" and the Chicago premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage's "By the Way, Meet Vera Stark."
