Charlize Theron Shaves Her Head; Other Actresses Who Have Gone Bald for Movie Roles

Horror of horrors, Charlize Theron appears to be bald.

In preparation for her upcoming role in the film, "Mad Max: Fury Road," the gorgeous blonde has cut off her long locks, leaving only a short stubble behind. On June 6, the "Snow White and the Huntsman" actress was spotted entering a salon, where we assume she and her hair parted ways. Over the weekend, she raised eyebrows by wearing a black beanie to the gym, despite the California heat. On Monday, with visible stubble around her temples, Theron was seen in a gray fedora looking downright sad. Well...we would be too!

While we join Charlize in mourning the loss of her beautiful hair, we're holding out hope that she'll grow it back out extra long when filming is complete. Meanwhile, here's a look at some other actresses who got up close and personal with some hair clippers for movie roles.

Though she's best known for appearing (with hair) in "Inception" and "Juno," actress Ellen Page rocked the bald look for her role in "Mouth to Mouth." We're guessing the Academy Award-nominee wasn't a fan of the look, since she wasted no time in growing her long, brown hair back out.

After shaving her head in 2002 for the film "Heaven," actress Cate Blanchett said she didn't mind being shorn. In fact, the blonde-haired, blue-eyed mother of three claimed she found the experience "liberating" and would consider shaving her head again!

In preparing for her part in upcoming film, "Les Miserables," Anne Hathaway redefined what it means to "suffer for your art." Not only did she appear to lose a significant amount of weight, she also chopped off her trademark long, brown hair. Though she's growing it back out, fiance Adam Shulman seems to love her anyway!

Before she was a "Black Swan," Oscar-winner Natalie Portman became an ugly duckling for her part in "V for Vendetta." Though it's painful to watch, the head-shaving scene in the film is the real deal, and though we would have cried, Portman bravely stayed in character. With baby Aleph celebrating his first birthday this month, perhaps the mother of one is missing the easy upkeep of her shorter 'do.

Long before "Prison Break" and "The Mentalist," actress Robin Tunney shaved her head her role in the 1995 film, "Empire Records." In the film, her antisocial character retreats to the bathroom, locks herself in, and proceeds to shave off her head. Because her hair was still growing back, Tunney was forced to wear a wig for her role in "The Craft" in 1996. Kim Zolciak would be proud.

These brave ladies aren't the only celebs who think bald is beautiful. Sigourney Weaver, Demi Moore, Cynthia Nixon, Mena Suvari, Bai Ling, and Toni Collette have all cut off their hair at one point or another.
