Amber Tamblyn married in yellow, while Anne Hathaway tied the knot in pink.

When it was time for Amber Tamblyn to pick a wedding dress, "white" wasn't on her must-have list.

"There's nothing really traditional about me," said Tamblyn, who married "Arrested Development" star David Cross on October 6. The unconventional couple said their "I do's" next to a river, in a clearing surrounded by woods; the 29-year-old bride was transported to the ceremony via canoe, and she walked down the aisle barefoot. As for the dress, the former "Joan of Arcadia" star chose a golden yellow shade that looked gorgeous with her auburn hair.

The bride gushed about her gown to Us Weekly, describing it as "marigold" with "a train in the back that was cream" and "a center-piece that was cut out in the middle." Though she didn't say who designed the piece, Tamblyn obviously loved the look that so perfectly suited her personality.

Amber isn't the only celebrity who opted for a non-white wedding dress in 2012. Here are a few famous brides who added a pop of color to their walk down the aisle.

Anne Hathaway

"Les Miserables" star Anne Hathaway wed Adam Shulman in September, donning a strapless silk Valentino gown with a "pink, hand-painted, shaded train" and floral satin embroidery. Despite the unique color of the dress, it was the 30-year-old's distinctive veil that drew the most attention. Reminiscent of a 1920s-style headband, the headpiece featured a large flower and emphasized the bride's super-short pixie haircut. Love it or hate it, the look was definitely original, decidedly romantic, and distinctly Anne.

Jessica Biel

After dating off and on since 2007, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake finally tied the knot on October 19 in Puglia, Italy. The "Total Recall" actress chose a special dress for her big day, wearing a "custom-designed, petal-pink, strapless" gown by Giambattista Valli. The strapless dress featured a full, princess-style skirt, and Biel accessorized with yellow and pink diamond earrings. Timberlake, who serenaded his wife with a song he wrote especially for her, said the pink bridal gown was "so Jess."

Cynthia Nixon

In May 2012, "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon married longtime partner Christine Marinoni in New York City. The 46-year-old gave considerable thought to her wedding dress after Carolina Herrera urged her to "get a dress with a capital D." Herrera created a pale-green, custom-made gown for the ceremony. The bride remarked on her color choice, saying "This particular shade - so light it borders on yellow - was especially apt, since it's the color of early spring, and no matter how long you've been together, a wedding is a certain kind of beginning."

Meagan Good

Actress Meagan Good, known for her roles in "Stomp the Yard" and "Deliver Us from Eva," tied the knot with Columbia Pictures exec DeVon Franklin in June 2012. The wedding took place at Triunfo Creek Winery in Malibu, in front of some 400 guests. Breaking with tradition, the bride chose a custom-made dress by R-mine, with lace sleeves, a low-cut back, and a purple train. The 30-year-old bride said the look she was going for was more "handsome" than "girly," and that she "wanted something that felt a tad bit rebellious and out of the ordinary."

What do you think of colored wedding dresses - gorgeous or garish?
