Trends come and go, but one of the most enduring is the trend of celebrities animal adoption - and boy, did they adopt in 2012. Sure, Kim Kardashian's kitty Mercy might have died young, but these other adopted celeb pets are (thankfully) thriving.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield

Things are getting serious between "The Amazing Spider-Man" co-stars Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield: They just adopted a dog together, according to reports.

The pair adopted the 2-year-old golden retriever named Ren from an L.A.-based animal rescue right before Christmas.

"They left and they couldn't stop thinking about her, so they came back for her. And it's true love," a source said of the pooch.

We'll admit it: We're jealous of the pup that gets to hang with Andrew and Emma.

David Arquette

Actor David Arquette needs a high-energy playmate to keep up with him, so he adopted a dog from a Detroit-area shelter in November. The basset hound - now named Dallas - was about to be euthanized at Last Day Dog Rescue when Arquette and girlfriend Christina McLarty swooped in to save him.

"The couple considered several options, but in the end decided that rescuing a dog in need was the best option for them," the rescue said in a press release.

Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad took some time out of her busy fashion, crafting and makeup tutorial schedule to adopt a pooch, Fitz, earlier this fall.

"Never go to the animal shelter 'just to look,'" she wrote in October, along with a photo of the adorable puppy. "It never ends that way."

Fitz joins Conrad's other adopted dog, Chloe - and things seem to be going well between the two.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart already had one adopted dog - Bear - when she decided to adopt another this fall.

"She was very emotionally manipulative. She really milked it," Stewart told Kelly Ripa on "Live! With Kelly and Michael" in November of adopting the new pup, named Bernie. "Then I got her home, and she was like, 'I have arrived.'"

The reason for getting the new dog? Stewart's "obsessed" with rescuing dogs. She has the means to support a bunch of rescue animals, so we say go for it!

Are you planning on adopting a new pet in 2013?
