Mariah Carey

"American Idol" isn't the only new project Mariah Carey is taking on these days. The singer and mother of "dem babies" Roc and Roe is getting set to launch two nail polish lines in collaboration with OPI.

"With her magnetic personality both on and off the stage, Mariah serves as a great inspiration for beautiful, bold colors," the company said in a statement.

The first line is set to launch in January and will no doubt benefit from Carey's debut on the FOX reality competition that also debuts during the same month. No word on when the second installment will hit salons.

She's hardly the first celebrity to collaborate on a nail polish line, though. It's almost a given these days: Get famous, gain a bunch of fans and then launch a nail polish line.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry really kickstarted the trend of celebrity nail polish lines when she launched her "Teenage Dream" collection in 2010. The polish colors were typical candy-hued creations that we'd expect from Perry, but the "black shatter" was the clear stand-out laquer of the bunch. The black topcoat launched a trend - and stores were sold out of the color for months.

Cha-ching for Katy!

Serena Williams

Tennis champion Serena Williams is a beast on the court, but she loves to look girly while doing it. She was first introduced to nail art as a child when she watched track star Florence Griffith Joyner win at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea.

"When I was fifteen, sixteen, I made half my room into a nail salon. I had the table, the chair, the rack against the wall with 50 nail polishes," she told Vogue. "Flo Jo had those long, awesome nails. I can't have her titles, I thought, but I can have her nails."

Williams later launched a "Grand Slam" nail polish collection with OPI that featured colors like Simply Smashing (a neon green, similar to a tennis ball), "Spark de Triomphe," a silver glitter and a white shatter.

The tennis pro is even a certified nail technician in Florida. "You need to do 240 hours-25 manicures, 40 acrylics, 20 pedicures," she told Vogue of earning her license.

Justin Bieber

Nail polish isn't only for the girls! Well, kinda: Justin Bieber launched a nail polish collection through Nicole by OPI back in 2010. The colors - available at WalMart - were marketed to take advantage of his mostly-female fan base and featured polishes with names like "One Less Lonely Glitter," "Prized Possession Purple" and "Give Me The First Dance."

Of course, his fans gobbled up the bottles. No word if Bieber ever wore the colors himself.
