Hordes of salivating women descending on movie theaters all across the country to get a glimpse of Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer as male strippers in "Magic Mike." The film earned an impressive $39.1 million over its opening weekend, making a nice return on the film's $7 million production budget.
The film rides on the male cast's sexy bodies - Tatum and co. reportedly went on gluten and dairy-free diets to get the chiseled looks that women loved. That's not all, though: they all had to get waxed and tanned for the thong-baring performances during the movie.
On Man Thongs
It's safe to say no one really enjoyed wearing a thong on "Magic Mike." The actors - included ex-stripper Tatum - told The Hollywood Reporter that the thong "betrayed" them at the worst possible moments.
"[But] if everyone is dressed in a thong pretty much any conversation is going to be funny … It's only weird if you make it weird," Tatum said.
Manganiello - who plays "Big D**k Ritchie" in the film - agreed with Tatum, adding that it was hard to take himself and the others seriously when they wore the butt floss.
"Honestly, the hardest part of this movie was biting the inside of my mouth to keep from laughing, especially watching Matthew in a yellow Spandex top and tiny bike shorts, grinding on Alex Pettyfer in front of the mirror," he joked.
Thongs weren't the guy's only worries, though - all of them had to get regular "manscaping" done to keep a hairless look for the film. Did it hurt? Uh, yeah.
"It was the most painful thing I'll ever do," Tatum told People. "And it's something I'll never do again."
Co-star Bomer agreed, telling People that it's something he'll never do again. However, he said it was important for all of them to "go there" during the movie. It sounds like the biggest baby about it all was McConaughey. The newlywed actor - who plays club owner Dallas in the film - went to a random place in a Los Angeles strip mall to get prepared for regular waxing.
The guys had some provocative moves to do during the film - and they all admitted to being embarrassed by the filming. Even Tatum - himself an ex stripper - said it was mortifying, especially during one scene when he had to reverse straddle a woman on the floor.
"That was one of our choreographers," he joked. "She knew what was coming but I kept certain things from her because I didn't want her to freak out."
On behalf of all straight women (and gay men): We salute you, "Magic Mike" cast, for taking one for the team.
