It's her body, and she'll eat what she wants to. Candace Cameron Bure is on the defensive this week after a seemingly harmless post on her Facebook page turned into a debate over her health.
It all started on Monday, July 14, when the Full House alum revealed that she was starting a protein-shake cleanse from Paleta Provisions. "After a very indulgent week in Napa, I'm excited to kick off my 5 day cleanse with @eatpaleta today!!" the 38-year-old mom of three wrote. "Shakes for breakfast & lunch, sensible snacks & a light veggie dinner!"
The post caught the attention of her many Facebook followers, who were quick to weigh in with their opinions. While many people praised her discipline (and even asked where they could buy a cleanse for themselves), others criticized her for not eating "real food" and accused her of just trying to plug a product. One "fan" even called her a "sellout."
In response to the backlash, the Dancing With the Stars third-place finisher wrote a follow-up post about the cleanse, in which she addressed her fans' concerns. "After reading your comments, let me expand! I'm excited to start my 5 day cleanse not to lose weight but to get my body back on track, ridding all the toxins and unhealthy stuff I've put in it the last few months," she explained.
"Since being off Dancing With the Stars, my body has struggled to find its balance after having danced up to 8 hours a day and eating so clean," she wrote. "After going back to my normal eating habits as well as extended overindulgent summertime vacation eating and normal exercise routine, my body has endured some confusion causing some minor health issues. That is private, so I will not go into detail, but this cleanse is just a step to getting it back on track because I know that food is a key source to healthy living."
She then went on to note that the Paleta cleanse includes "real food," as well as shakes. "If you still comment about how unhealthy I am for doing a cleanse or that I don't need to lose weight, I'll know that you never read any of this and I won't bother answering any comments below of that nature," she concluded.
Her follow-up post earned twice as many "likes" as her original post, with many fans offering their support and encouragement. "You don't have to explain yourself to anyone!" one wrote. "Do what you do. We have no room to judge!"
Added another: "I so appreciate your thoughtfulness and consideration of those who follow your page. Even though I think it is silly what some people comment and think, you are always gracious and are firm yet kind."
