Building The Perfect Reality Competition
Whether American Idol, The Voice, The X Factor or Duets is your favorite, there's no denying that every single reality competition show possesses a few flaws -- so for his new singing competition, mega-manager Johnny Wright (Justin Timberlake, The Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson) not only paired with legendary producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jenkins (Beyonce, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson), but he also aimed to avoid the biggest mistakes those shows have made.

TheInsider.com caught up with Johnny to talk about Take The Stage -- a YOBI.tv and MySpace-based competition that follows nine contestants all chasing a music management contract -- and find out the 5 ways he created the perfect reality competition series.
1. The Audience Has All The Power
Most reality shows let America vote once the finalists have been determined, but not on Take The Stage. "There are a lot of talent shows out there, but what's different about this one is that we don't choose the winner -- we didn't even choose the nine finalists," Johnny told TheInsider.com. "That was all done by fans tuning in and voting on MySpace."

2. Pull Back The Covers
"It's tough for aspiring artists on reality shows because they not only have to be the best out of the contestants, but by singing other artist's songs, they are competing against the originator of that hit record as well," he says. "On Take The Stage, all the music is original, so you really get to discover everything about these artists."
3. Even Though It's A Competition, There's No Competition
Because there are no eliminations on Take The Stage, it fosters an environment of teamwork between the contestants. "Because no one is sent home, it makes the artist actually want to support each other. Yes, one of them will be the overall winner, but no one holds back out of fear of being eliminated."

4. The Contestants Are Ready For The Spotlight
"Nowadays, these reality shows are taking kids out of their small hometowns and putting them on a world stage in front of millions of people before they've ever been properly trained on how to be on that stage," Johnny says. "What I've always found with artists I've been successful with is that we didn't have big platforms. We had to be discovered. We had to go from town to town to build and audience and make people believe in what we were doing."
5. Un-Judged
The only judge on Take The Stage is you! "Rodney and I are mentors. We're only there to make people better," Johnny says. "My career has always been about helping to find, build and guide the next big thing. And I think we've done that with Take The Stage."
