MTV fans were shocked Monday when "Buckwild" star Shain Gandee was found dead in his Ford Bronco outside of Sissonville, West Virginia. According to Kanawha County authorities, three bodies - presumed to be that of Gandee, his uncle David Gandee and another -- were pulled from a vehicle parked in a rural area.

The 21-year-old trash collector was last seen at Big Larry's Bar on early Sunday morning when he told friends that he was going off-roading. No official cause of death has been revealed, though several media outlets are reporting that they died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

"They were mudding and got stuck in a mud hole," a source told RealityTea. "They left the engine running, which caused the carbon monoxide poisoning."

What we do know: MTV announced its halted production on the show.

Sadly, the young Shain isn't the first - or probably the last - reality star to meet an untimely end.

Joey Kovar

"Real World: Hollywood" star Joey Kovar's struggles with alcohol and cocaine - and his subsequent stint in rehab - were well documented on the 2008 season of the long-running MTV reality show. He seemed to have smashed his demons, but the addiction crept back into his life, leading to a stint on VH1's "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew."

Sadly, the aspiring bodybuilder was found dead at a friend's house outside Chicago in August 2012. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office later said he died from an overdose of Viagra, cocaine and alcohol.

Ryan Dunn

Ryan Dunn was well known to MTV "Jackass" fans as the loveable sidekick to stars Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera and Steve-O. However, his stint as a television and movie star was short-lived: The reality star died in a fiery crash in June 2011 after a day of drinking at a Pennsylvania bar.

According to reports, Dunn was driving his Porsche 911 at an estimated 130 mph when he crashed into a guardrail, instantly killing him and passenger Zachary Hartwell. A photo of the mangled sports car was quickly uploaded after the crash. It might be grisly, but it serves as a reminder: Don't drink and drive… ever.

Mark Balelo

The main characters on A&E's popular reality show "Storage Wars" are often portrayed as loveable louts, but at least one cast member was hiding a dark side underneath his entrepreneurial outside.

Mark Balelo - known as "Rico Suave" on the second season of the show - was found dead in his car in early February of suicide from carbon monoxide poisoning. The death came just two days after he was arrested for a drug-related offense.
