Brooklyn Reduced to Tears as Andy Retires

Andy Roddick has been the hunk of American tennis for over a decade, but now the door is wide open for a new youngster to fill that void. Wife, actress and model Brooklyn Decker, was tearful as her husband waved goodbye to his adoring fans.

The superstar athlete shocked the tennis world last week by announcing on his 30th birthday that the U.S. Open would be his last tournament. After resuming Tuesday's rain-delayed match, Andy lost to Argentinean Juan Martin del Potro, three sets to one.

"For the first time in my career I'm not sure what to say... Since I was a kid, I've been coming to this tournament. I felt lucky to sit where all of you are sitting here today and to see all the champions that have come and gone. I've loved every minute of it," he said on the court after the match concluded. "I just want to say thank you to my family, my mom, my dad, who gave me every chance. My support team who's been with me forever. One thing I'm not afraid of about retirement is the people I go home to, they're great."

Special guest Pippa Middleton was even spotted sitting next to Andy's mom and dad in his cheering section. In 2003, Andy won the U.S. Open trophy, his one grand slam title. In his post-tennis career, tennis' A-Rod plans to dedicate his time to his charity, The Andy Roddick Foundation, and build a school in his hometown of Austin, TX.

Serena Williams composed herself after admittedly wiping away tears in the locker room. Following her victory later in the night, she commented, "I was out there watching his game and rooting so hard for Andy. I love Andy so much. He's such a good friend. I've known him since I was eight years old. We'll continue to be friends. What a great career he's had."
