Britney Spears' Version of "I Love Rock N' Roll" Named Worst Cover of All Time

It's official--Britney Spears' version of "I Love Rock N' Roll" is the worst cover of all time, at least according to NME readers.

And Britney Spears certainly knows how to take the love out of rock and roll because her rendition of the song sounds like drunk karaoke. Though to be fair, Britney is known more for her sex appeal than for her vocal prowess. Regardless of the song, Spears has a talent for making ears bleed.

Britney Spears Worst Cover of All Time: Other Contenders

Dishonorable mentions went to Ronan Keating's "Fairytale of New York," Celine Dion's "You Shook Me All Night Long," and Take That's "Smells Like Teen Spirit.," and M People's "Itchycoo Park."

Meanwhile, Muse's "Feeling Good" was voted best cover of all time. Honorable mentions went to The Beatles "Twist and Shout," Johnny Cash's "Hurt," Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe," and Nirvana's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" rounding out the top five.

Granted Britney Spears' rendition of "I Love Rock N' Roll" deserves a place in the cover Hall of Shame, but was it really the worst of all time? Surely the Jonas Brothers' version of "Take on Me," Hilary Duff's "My Generation," Jessica Simpson's "Angels," or Madonna's "American Pie" could have given Britney Spears a run for her money.

Britney Spears Worst Cover of All Time: American Idol Contestants Give her a Run for her Money

Yet if readers are looking for crimes against music, they only need to watch American Idol Rewind. Remember Kevin Covais? Sanjaya Malakar? Scott Savol? Mikalah Gordon? Tim Urban? Nikki bbiMcKin?

What about Danny Gokey's rendition of "Dream On" (or Scream On), Haeley Vaughn's "The Climb," Paige Miles "Against All Odds," Megan Joy Corkery's "Rockin' Robin," Jasmine Trias "It's Raining Men," Camile Velasco's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," or John Stevens' "My Girl"?

And let's not forget American Idol's semi-finalists. Despite their lack of screen time, they managed to leave indelibly piercing holes in our ear drums. What was more painful, Juanita Barber shouting "What about the Children?" or her shameless sass towards the judges? And who could forget Lisa Wilson's performance of "Come to My Window?" And how did Janay Castine manage to last three whole weeks?

Poor Britney Spears. After being voted for worst cover of all time, I'll bet she no longer loves rock n' roll.
