Bob Berney Joins Amazon Studios as Head of Movie Distribution and Marketing; Albert Cheng Named COO

Bob Berney and Albert Cheng joined Amazon Studios Monday in key roles: Berney will head movie distribution and marketing, while Cheng hops aboard as chief operating officer.

Berney, the now-former CEO of indie film marketing and distribution company Picturehouse, will be responsible for overseeing distribution and marketing for all Amazon Original Movies in his new role. The division, announced in January, is where Amazon Studios will produce and acquire original movies for theatrical release and early window distribution for Prime members.

The new department chief was previously behind the marketing and distribution for “Pan’s Labyrinth,” “The Passion of the Christ” and “My Big Fat Geek Wedding.” Berney is individually credited with relaunching Picturehouse.

Amazon Studios vice president Roy Price previously said that his company plans to produce a dozen films per year.
