Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's wedding date is seemingly up in the air and Miley's dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, says even he isn't sure when the young pair will tie the knot.

"That's Miley's deal as far as when the wedding is," Billy Ray - who just released a new memoir, "Hillbilly Heart" - told Kit Hoover and Billy Bush on Thursday's Access Hollywood Live, when asked about the details of the wedding postponement. "I don't really know that much about when they're getting married."

The country star, who filed for divorce from wife Tish in 2010 (the couple reconciled and called off the split in 2011), said he has learned the importance of maintaining a strong friendship with your spouse - a concept he'll continue to stress to 20-year-old Miley, no matter the outcome of her relationship with the 23-year-old "Catching Fire" star.

"I'm excited their friendship is on track," Billy Ray said of Miley and Liam. "And when they asked me [about getting married], I said, 'You guys are great friends. Don't take a chance on messing that up. Be good to each other and be good friends and everything else will figure itself out.'"

Billy Ray also weighed in on Miley's highly-publicized 2010 bong scandal.

"I look back and think, 'If the Internet would've existed when I was her age I'd probably still be in jail,'" he said with a laugh, before regaling Billy and Kit with tales of his own marijuana use during his younger years.

"I grew one [pot] plant one time and my mom ran out there and killed it," he said. "I was watching that thing all summer - I was so proud of it. I came home one day and it was gone!"
