Beyonce Knowles stole the show at the VMAs last night with the revelation that she is pregnant. The MTV Video Music Awards at the Nokia Theater in Downtown Los Angeles was the hot spot that Beyonce chose to reveal her beautiful secret. The R&B singer is married to rapper Jay-Z. The couple is notoriously tight-lipped about their relationship.
Songstress Beyonce arrived at the awards in a sweeping one shoulder Lanvin red gown looking absolutely luminescent. Then she graced the stage introduced by her fellow divas Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. It was an interesting moment as Gaga intruded on Britney's earnest Video Vanguard speech with her Ralph Macchio lookalike performance art character. Then Bey took the stage and made us forget all of that madness.
The mom-to-be made us nervous with her entrance as we didn't know whether she'd break into her usual Tina Turner dance antics. Thankfully she didn't --but Beyonce standing still is more exciting than a lot of people moving anyway. As a finale the pop princess dropped the mic and ripped open her Dolce and Gabbana jacket to reveal her baby bump. She rubbed her tummy to the beat and smiled at the crowd to a wild ovation. Her husband, Jay- Z was beaming in the front row with his boy Kanye West. It was the kind of Hollywood and hip hop royalty made-for-TV madness that The Kardashians could only hope to keep up with.
Beyonce got her start in the girl group Destiny's Child as a teen performer. The group was plagued by drama and after many changes finally settled on the winning combination of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The trio reunited briefly earlier this year for bandmate Kelly's 30th birthday.
When Beyonce took the stage last night she urged the audience to "feel the love growing inside" her. This privileged little baby to be is the first child for the couple together. However Bey and Jay have made a few hot musical collaborations. After all, Jay musically declared, "I got the hottest chick in the game wearing my chain."
"Bonnie and Clyde"
Beyonce and Jay-Z kicked off their musical life together with the song "'03 Bonnie and Clyde." At the time people were speculating that they were in a relationship and the song proved it. The music video was directed by Chris Robinson.
"Crazy in Love"
Beyonce and her rapper du jour really made the haters go insane with "Crazy in Love." the song was a high powered smash diversion from Bey's R&B hits of that era. The video was also tons of fun.
People speculate that when the duo had their secret wedding in April 2008 that Lady B sang her rendition of "Ave Maria." This is just a rumor but one thing is certain. There is a beautiful baby on the way. I wish her the mom's looks and the dad's entrepreneurial wisdom.
