Avril Lavigne engaged to Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger
Avril Lavigne’s love life is now a little less complicated. The singer announced on Tuesday that she is engaged to marry Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger after just six (secret) months of dating. The couple first met when they got together to write for Lavigne’s upcoming album in February, and “a romantic relationship blossomed,” a friend tells People.
Kroeger, 37, proposed to the 27-year-old singer – who, until recently, had been dating Brody Jenner – on August 8 with a whopping 14-carat diamond ring, which the magazine has photos of in its new issue. "He makes her so happy," a family source tells People. "Both of their families could not be more excited."
This will be the second marriage for Lavigne, who was wed to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley for three years until 2009. Kroeger split from his common-law wife, Marianne, in 2009 after seven years together. Last May, a judge in Vancouver ruled that he must pay her $25,000 a month in alimony.
