The already-slender actress dropped 25 pounds to play sickly prostitute Fantine in the movie "Les Misérables," and the diet she used to do this is downright depressing.
Earlier this year, the actress told Allure that she was on a detox diet that consisted of little more than hummus and radishes. Back then she was reportedly taking in just 500 calories a day.
She managed to shed 10 pounds with the detox diet, but her look wasn't extreme enough. She recently told Vogue that she resorted to eating just two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day for two weeks in order to drop 15 more pounds. The "near-starvation diet" was designed to make her look near death, and it definitely worked.

This star known for his love of being shirtless recently sexed up the silver screen as a beefy male stripper in "Magic Mike," so his fans will be shocked to see his appearance in the movie "The Dallas Buyer's Club." Matthew has dropped 30 pounds to portray an AIDS sufferer, and he told Larry King that he's been combating hunger by drinking a lot of tea. Here's what he said about his extreme weight loss: "It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off itself and that you're not going to give it something else from the outside." So it sounds like his diet plan is basically starvation and willpower.
Beyonce's sexy curves have made her the dream woman of many a man, but she had to lose them for the movie "Dreamgirls." To shed 20 pounds, the singer/actress went on the Master Cleanse diet, which is a "concoction of hot water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper." As soon as she was finished filming, she started working on becoming bootylicious again by scarfing down a dozen donuts.
To play a prisoner on a hunger strike in the movie "Hunger," this hot hunk had to lose about 30 pounds. Fassy did this by eating just 600 calories a day for 10 weeks, and here's what he told Shortlist about his food of choice: "I ate canned sardines. The great thing is they have the calories on the box so I could count exactly what I was putting in." His body was so dismayed by the extreme dieting that he lost his libido for six weeks, and his fishy breath probably didn't help matters in the bedroom.
To lose 20 pounds in order to portray an obsessive ballerina in "Black Swan," Natalie reportedly ate little more than almonds and carrots. She also endured brutal eight hour rehearsals that led to a dislocated rib, so it's not surprising that the exhausted actress said that she literally felt like she was going to die while working on the movie. But it was all worth it - she did get a baby, a hot husband, and an Oscar out of the gig.
