First things first - dress the part.

"You'd definitely wear some crinolines -- big skirts, sparkles are a must," AnnaSophia told AccessHollywood.com at the Television Critics Association Winter Session 2013 as she promoted her new show.

"It's the '80s, you can go for neons, different patterns, sequins is always accepted," she added. "Big hair - a must. Lots of jewelry. Nail polish is always good."

And then there's the perfect food.

"We eat a lot in the show," she said. "When you're with your girlfriends, what do you do? You eat! You paint your nails and do that sort of stuff. .. We have lots of popcorn, like little saltine peanut butter and jelly sandwiches - teenage food."

The new show takes viewers into "Sex and The City" character Carrie Bradshaw's early years, as a teen in Connecticut, adjusting to life after the death of her mother, surviving high school, and falling in love with New York City.

The drama features a lot of classic '80s hits like ones from Adam Ant and Joy Division and AnnaSophia said another pop star's tune is coming up later in the season.

"It's great," AnnaSophia said of the music in the show. "I always get so excited every time we go through the read-through. The writers always stick the song that they have in mind [in the script] and usually we get song clearance, which is pretty amazing, so our soundtrack is pretty bomb! The other day I think I was dancing to Madonna's 'Everybody,' at a club - Limelight -- it was fun."

Although she was born in 1993 (she's 19), AnnaSophia - through her role as Carrie - has become totally fascinated by the 1980s.

"The more immersed I become in the 80s, the more fabulous it is," she told Access. "It was such a time of exploration, where people just went for it, they went for the big hair, they went for the big printed colorful suit. It was a time of explosion of music and art and culture and wacky dance moves that are kind of gone now - which is kind of good -- but I think it's such a fun time for the audience to watch and for us to play in."
