Alec Baldwin has reason to celebrate! The recently trimmed-down "30 Rock" star and his girlfriend Hilaria Thomas announced Monday morning that they are engaged. Apparently Baldwin popped the question over the weekend, according to Alec's rep. Baldwin has been married once before, to actress Kim Bassinger, who has a child with Baldwin, daughter Ireland, who was born in 1995.
Baldwin will turn 54 years old this week, and his new bride-to-be is 28 years old. That's a 26 year gap between the two. While not the norm, these sorts of May-December romances are nothing new in Hollywood. Here are a few of the more notable instances of a love that crosses time.
Bogey and Bacall - Long considered one of Tinseltown's most iconic couples, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall met on the set of "To Have and Have Not" when she was just 19 years old, while Bogart was 45. The two went on to star in several films together and got hitched in 1945. The age gap of was just about the same as Baldwin and Thomas, 25 years, and they had two kids together.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones - Married since 2000, Douglas and Zeta-Jones have two children together. Douglas is 25 years older than the "Chicago" star. In 2010 the couple faced Michael's throat cancer diagnosis together, and by all accounts Douglas is back to full health, set to star in "Behind the Candelabra," the Liberace biopic that will cast the star as the flamboyant pianist and pop-culture icon who died in 1986 after being diagnosed with AIDS.
Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn - The auteur and his bride are separated by 38 years in age. Of course, what most people remember this couple for is not just their sizable age difference, but also the manner in which they met. Soon-Yi had been an adopted daughter of Allen's girlfriend, Mia Farrow, at the time. That relationship had a very public and messy end, which ultimately resulted in Allen marrying Previn in 1997, but entering a form of seclusion from the public eye. Woody has continued to create films however, even being nominated for an Oscar this year for his work writing "Midnight in Paris."
Warren Beatty and Annette Bening - The couple met on the set of "Bugsy," a box office disappointment for Beatty, but considering he met his future wife while making it, we bet it still feels like a blockbuster to Warren! There's a 21-year space between Beatty's birth and Bening's, but that didn't stop the pair from getting married in 1992. They've had four children together, and celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary last month.
