Alanis Morissette ‘Jagged Little Pill’ Musical Eyes Broadway Run

“Jagged Little Pill,” the hit Alanis Morissette album that further popularized the notion that men are scum and demonstrated a shaky grasp of the definition of “irony,” may be headed to Broadway.

Next year, the Grammy winner will debut a workshop production of a possible jukebox musical, also called “Jagged Little Pill,” that will use songs from the 1995 album. The album and its anthemic songs like “Ironic” and “One Hand in My Pocket” were a sensation, selling more than 33 million copies worldwide.

“I look forward to taking the heart of ‘Jagged Little Pill’ and expanding its story, fleshing it out into ever deeper layers of emotionality, specificity, humanity, power, physicality, spirit and fabulism,” Morissette said in a statement.

Jukebox musicals based on the work of groups like The Beatles, Green Day and Billy Joel have become increasingly popular on Broadway and are currently represented by hits like “Motown” and “Jersey Boys.”

The show will also have Morissette songs from other albums as well as new, original songs the Canadian songstress will cook up for the stage show.

Two-time Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt (“Next To Normal”, Green Day’s “American Idiot”) has signed on to provide orchestrations and arrangements. “Jagged Little Pill” will be produced by Vivek J. Tiwary, who brought Green Day’s “American Idiot” to Broadway, and Arvind Ethan David.
