Adam Levine is engaged, but is he really married to the idea of getting married?

The Maroon 5 frontman's rep confirmed to People: "Adam Levine and his girlfriend Behati Prinsloo are excited to announce they are engaged to be married. The couple recently reunited and Adam proposed this weekend in Los Angeles."

That's right, after a brief split -- during which Levine was spotted out and about with model Nina Agdal -- the popular "The Voice" mentor realized that Prinsloo, a 24-year-old Victoria's Secret Angel, is marriage material.

But what about all of the rock star's conflicting chatter on the subject of marriage? Here's a sampling of what's he has said in the past about marriage:

In a 2012 interview with Paper Mag he said, "I'm extremely fascinated by marriage. I want to study marriage. I want to learn about it. I want to know it. I want to figure out whether or not I want to do it. I'm not just going to leap into it, because that's not good for anybody."

So how did his study sessions go?

Earlier this year, he came up with the perfect formula for lowering the divorce rate. He told Nylon Guys, "If you don't get married, you can't get divorced. Why couldn't we learn from the devastatingly low percentage of successful marriages that our last generation went through?"

Say what?

Of course, in a 2011 interview with CNN talk show host Piers Morgan, he said, "I'd love to be maybe considering the idea of having a family. And at [42], I'd love to have maybe a 2-year-old."

But he promptly added this disclaimer: "I don't think that you necessarily have to be married to have children… Marriage is a controversial thing, clearly. I find that in a lot of ways, it doesn't work. Then in some ways, it does. I'm inspired by certain marriages. I'm uninspired by others."

Then again, in 2011 he told Elle, "There are many things that keep me from getting married. But there will be a time when marriage makes sense to me. I have a very all-over-the-place lifestyle. The people I know who are married - 90 percent of them have houses and live in the same place and sleep in the same bed every night. The most important thing about marriage is understanding that it might not be the right time, regardless of what your friends are doing…Peer pressure plays a huge role in people's desire to get married."

Of course, when Levine sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an "Oprah's Next Chapter" interview this past May, the 34-year-old seemed to have a little more clarity. He told the OWN head honcho: "I'm a fan of marriage. People think that I keep pooh poohing marriage, and I love it and I want to probably be married at some point… I don't feel pressured to get married. I think a lot of people put pressure on themselves to get married and I think that when it's time, it's going to be obvious, and I'm going to do it, and I'm going to really enjoy it. I love kids, I love the idea of having a wife."

It looks like the time has come!
