Charlie Sheen, 2009

Amanda Seyfried's turn as porn star Linda Lovelace will debut at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival which opens this weekend. However, the actress is still unnerved by her part in the dark biopic.

"Thank God for Les Miserables," the "Lovelace" star told The Guardian. "I had three weeks after the movie before I started on Les Mis [sic], but I couldn't get myself out of 'Lovelace' until I turned up on set," the 27-year-old explained. As probably the first person in history to look to "Les Miserables" to raise their spirits, Seyfried admitted "it was kind of a relief."

The "Dear John" star's journey into the often dark and murky origins of the American porn industry had left an indelible mark upon the actress. "To understand someone's [Lovelace's] experience is always hard, but to play someone who you can't relate to at all... I'm not virginal, but nor am I in any way, shape or form comfortable with my sexuality to the point that Linda came to be. The hardest thing was understanding the struggle, the depth of her depression, pretending everything was OK while being beaten the s**t out of every day."

However, the "Mean Girls" actress isn't the only celeb to delve into the porn underworld.

Mark Wahlberg

It's no secret that 'Marky Mark' has no problem taking off his clothes in public. In Paul Thomas Anderson's quintessential film on the Golden Era of Porn, "Boogie Nights," the former Calvin Klein underwear model took on the role of fictional porn star "Dirk Diggler" opposite a star-studded cast that included Julianne Moore as porn star "Amber Waves" and Heather Graham as "Rollergirl." The "Broken City" actor's character was loosely based on the tragic downfall of real-life porn star John C. Holmes.

Val Kilmer

The "Heat" actor has played his share of sex icons during his career from Jim Morrison to Bruce Wayne. However, in one of his darkest performances, Kilmer also tackled the subject of the iconic 70s porn star John C. Holmes in the 2003 film "Wonderland." The film details the adult film star's descent into a life of drug abuse and crime, focusing on Holmes alleged involvement in the grisly 1981 'Wonderland murders.'

Charlie Sheen

While he is better known for dating and living with porn stars like Bree Olson and Georgia Jones, the former "Two and a Half Men" star has also taken a professional interest in the origins of the contemporary American pornography industry. In the film "Rated X," Sheen teamed up with his real-life brother Emilio Estevez to chronicle the lives of porn pioneers Jim and Artie Mitchell, whose tragic 'Cain and Abel' story ends with Jim murdering his brother Artie in cold blood.

Kim Cattrall

Since her first big role as the howling Miss Lynn "Lassie" Honeywell in the 1982 film "Porky's," the vocal actress has been pushing the boundaries of sexual content in both television and film. In 2010, the "Sex and the City" star once again became the object of desire for a coming-of-age teenage boy when she was cast as a washed-up porn actress moonlighting at a small-time gentleman's club in "Meet Monica Velour."

Elisha Cuthbert

The "Happy Endings" actress starred in another movie to pair up a hormone-enraged high school boy with a former adult film star. The lighthearted and somewhat amusing -- though morally deplorable -- 2004 film, "The Girl Next Door," also stars a then little-known actress Olivia Wilde, who appears with her naturally blonde mane of hair.

Robert Downey, Jr.

Before resurrecting his career as a box-office superstar with films like "Iron Man," "Sherlock Holmes," and "The Avengers," the perennial Hollywood bad boy starred in some rather unheralded comedic flops including the 1988 film "Rented Lips" directed by his father, Robert Downey, Sr. In it, the dapper Downey plays porn star "Wolf Dangler" who is working on a adult film set in a Nazi concentration camp. Unsurprisingly, the film has never been released on DVD.
