Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan are getting set to welcome a baby boy into their home. For the star of "Iron Man" and "Sherlock Holmes," this will be his second son. He has a 17-year-old son named Indio from a previous marriage. Susan and Robert have been married for six years, and this is their first child together.

The birth of his second son will mark yet another high-water moment in the star's life, which perhaps no one could have predicted years ago when he was battling for sobriety and a grip on his career and life. When speaking of stories of redemption, one has to put Robert's story nearly at the top. His career and personal life has seen extreme highs and lows, but since cleaning up for good about 10 years ago, the 46-year-old actor has been riding a steady current upward.

Downey has many qualities that will make him a great father to his new baby boy, and here are five them.

He's Got Experience - This isn't his first rodeo. This baby will be his second son, so hopefully Robert's learned a thing or two from his experiences with Indio that will help him in raising his newest little bundle of joy. It doesn't always get easier with subsequent children, but having at least some experience will definitely help him out.

He Can Roll With the Punches - Anyone who has bounced back from the abyss the way Robert Downey Jr. has is absolutely equipped to handle parenthood. Raising a child can be a wildly unpredictable ride, filled with great peaks and tremendously sad valleys. The "Chaplin" star has already proven many times that he's capable of facing adversity and overcoming it, which is a great quality to have as a parent.

He's Quiet, Cool and Calm - With a rare exception, Downey's always had a very calm and cool demeanor. Nothing could help him more than being able to stay focused and calm when dealing with a child. Staying level-headed is a true gift.

Tantrums Are Nothing New To Him - Having been a working actor for over 40 years, he's probably seen more than his fair share of meltdowns and tantrums on set. No two year old's tantrum could compare to an angry starlet whose trailer isn't as big as her co-star's. He should be able to defuse any fit his new baby throws.

A Great Sense of Humor - Lest we forget, Downey Jr. was actually a cast member on "Saturday Night Live," and he's appeared in countless comedies. His work in "Tropic Thunder" is nothing short of amazing. His ability to laugh and make others laugh will be a great tool in his belt when it comes to handling the ins and outs of being a daddy.
