The great thing about blue gowns at awards shows are that they add punches of color to a red carpet that's typically filled with a lot of black, nude and white gowns. There were quite a few celebs who strutted their stuff at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards wearing gorgeous blue gowns, while there were those who were better off leaving their frocks on hangers and going with something better. Which celebs wore the best and worst blue gowns at the Golden Globes?

Nicole Richie

This is probably one of Nicole's best red carpet looks to date. She stepped out in a long-sleeve Naeem Khan gown that was embroidered with a delicate floral design. Considering how many celebs were stating how cold it was, she was no doubt warmer than many others on the red carpet. She kept her makeup low key and went with a soft wavy hairstyle. The only issue is the clutch. It didn't go with the dress and a pastel clutch would have been a much better choice. However, she was still definitely one of the best dressed of the evening.

Jessica Chastain

The "Zero Dark Thirty" actress walked the red carpet in a sea-foam Calvin Klein halter dress, but missed the mark with her ensemble and hair. The dress wasn't tailored well at all, especially on the bodice, and it failed to flatter her fabulous figure. As far as her hair, the slicked back style did her no favors.

Jodie Foster

The legend chose the perfect gown to wear on her big night as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille award for Lifetime Achievement in film at the Golden Globe Awards. She wore a deep blue Giorgio Armani gown that shimmered from top-to-bottom. Her hair was in a bob style and she opted for minimal makeup. A beautiful look for a wonderful evening.

Lucy Liu

At every awards show, there's usually at least one or two gowns that causes a love/hate debate, and the actress wore one of them with her strapless pastel blue Carolina Herrera gown. It consisted of a fitted bodice, a ballgown skirt and a green, yellow and red rose print. Most dresses with this design would go onto the ugly pile, but this one is bold and fabulous and has the perfect mix of femininity, elegance and uniqueness. She pulled it off beautifully and also made the perfect choice by opting for a side fishtail braid instead of leaving her hair down or in an updo.

Rosario Dawson

Sadly, the light blue Antonio Berardi peplum gown the actress wore was not only boring, but ill-fitting. It was way too tight and there was no oomph or dazzle to it. The best two things about her entire look were her hair and smile.

Olivia Munn

The 32-year-old walked the red carpet in a Giorgio Armani gown that had a black bottom and a turquoise encrusted bodice. While it was a beautiful dress, she went overboard with the accessories. The necklace, although stunning, was unnecessary. The clutch was also way too big and something smaller would have sufficed. Regardless, she still looked lovely.

Julianna Margulies

The star of "The Good Wife" stepped out in a midnight blue sheer lace Emilio Pucci gown and it had the potential to be something great, but the design was way too busy to the point of being distracting. She completed her look with a slick backed ponytail and red lipstick. The 46-year-old was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama but lost out to Claire Danes.

Thandie Newton

Her short Giles Spring ensemble was certainly not right for the Golden Globes. Not only is something short more appropriate for a party, but the frock looked like something an ice skater would wear. She's capable of so much more.

Salma Hayek

The midnight blue Gucci Premiere strapless gown she wore was stunning, although it could have done without the bow, but she needs a new hair stylist and makeup artist. The makeup, especially the coral lipstick, had no business with this dress and the hair was just a mess. For such a beauty, this was a disappointment.

Out of the blue gowns on the red carpet at the 2013 Golden Globes, which is your most and least favorite?
