New York was buzzing last night, as the best of Broadway turned out in force for the 2012 Tony Awards. Stars of stage and screen congregated at the Beacon Theater to celebrate their achievements from the last twelve months. Such an event always sees a mix of fashion, from the sublime to the scary. Here is a look at some of the worst fashions at this year's Tony Awards.
Amanda Seyfried looked very colorful, but not in a good way. Her purple, black and gold hippy-style dress might have been acceptable if it weren't for the addition of the bright red belt and purse she added as accessories. Seyfried's make-up was just plain scary. Her delicate features were completely drowned out by her blood red lipstick, and her ears looked weighted down by the huge gold teardrops hanging from her lobes.
The "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" star chose a look that fell somewhere between smart and casual, leaning slightly too far towards casual. If it weren't for the sparkly gold and black bracelet on her wrist, and her pretty earrings, she could have been going for a quick trip to the grocery store! The whole look was completely unremarkable, and far too dull for such a prestigious event.
Arts executive Heather Hitchens completely missed the mark with her pale green gown. It is 2012, but she could have stepped right out of a John Hughes movie with those puffy sleeves, and the very dated dress style. In her defense, her accessories were stunning, but they didn't make-up for the monstrosity that was her outfit.
The problem with Kathy Najimy's Tony Awards style wasn't so much the choice of outfit, but the way she wore it. She looked like she'd dressed in a hurry, with her bra peeking out over the top of her blue dress, her messy hair, and her overly loose jacket. It's hard to see her footwear, but it looks like she stepped into black boots which just make the whole thing worse.
