’16 & Pregnant’ Recap: Myranda Struggles To Be A Mom And Have A Relationship With her Mother
This week’s episode of ’16 & Pregnant’ is a classic story of babies having babies. Myranda Trevino tries to grasp motherhood while learning to trust her own mother.
It’s difficult to be a teen mom, especially when you grew up without one. On the May 1 episode of 16 & Pregnant, 17-year-old Myranda Trevino learns how to be a mom and fix her relationship with her mother who’s had a history of drug and alcohol abuse.
Myranda had only been with her boyfriend Eric Kennemer for three months when she found out she was pregnant. She was living with Eric’s grandma, because her mom was in and out of rehab. Even though she was on the pill, she missed a month and the softball star realized she’s have to put down the bat and pick up a bottle.
“I was thinking with my penis,” proclaimed Eric to his best friend.
Despite the lack of thinking, Myranda and Eric were forced to grow up and start preparing to become parents. Because neither of them had a job, Eric’s family helped them clean up an old, worn-out house on the edge of his Grandma’s property. While it was difficult for Myranda to start giving up her social life, it was even harder that her mom relapsed and missed important doctor’s appointments and shopping excursions.
“I don’t want my baby to be around someone like that,” Myranda told her friends.
Myranda’s mom entered an intensive outpatient rehab program to try and get clean before the baby was born. But because of her mother’s unreliability, Myranda decided that she didn’t want to have her mother in the delivery room.
“I don’t give a rat’s butt about my mom anymore,” Myranda said when people asked her if she was afraid of hurting her mom’s feelings.
After baby Kaylee was born, Myranda started feeling stir crazy being left alone with the baby while Eric was at school and work. Because she didn’t trust her mom to babysit, it was hard for her to ever get a break from being a mom. Eventually, she let her mom babysit one night, but couldn’t enjoy her time alone with Eric because she was so worried that her mother was compromising her baby’s safety.
Myranda concluded the episode saying that while she doesn’t regret having a baby, she does wish that she waited to have sex because she wanted to provide a better life for her baby. She hopes that she will be able to learn to trust her mom more, so she will one day feel comfortable leaving Kaylee alone with her.
