'The Andy Griffith Show' vs. 'The Love Boat': Vote for the Best TV Show Themes

Whistling with Andy Taylor, or cruising with Captain Stubing? You decide in Round 1 of Yahoo! TV's Theme Song Thunderdome.

Yahoo TV

With March Madness in full swing, we decided to do a TV-themed bracket of our own: a no-holds-barred tournament to determine the best TV theme song of all time. After lots of heated debate, we've selected and ranked 32 of the most memorable TV theme songs ever, pitting them against each other in a winner-takes-all bracket. Over the next few weeks, we're asking you to vote for your favorite theme songs until we get a winner -- and a few songs stuck in your heads.

(8) "The Andy Griffith Show" ("The Fishin' Hole")

There's just something about this one that makes you want to go fishing and whistle along the way. Seeing as this is exactly what happens as a whistled melody provides the backdrop to Andy and Opie Taylor strolling towards the Mayberry fishing hole, that would make sense. What also makes sense? The fact that you now can't get that whistle out of your head. Sorry, not sorry.

(9) "The Love Boat"

Wanna go on a cruise? Us too! Especially when it's filled with love, life's sweetest reward. This track set the perfect tone for the melodramatic primetime soap opera; so perfect, in fact, that Dionne Warwick performed a cover of the theme for the show's final season, and the song has been released as a single twice (!), by Charo in 1978 and Amanda Lear in 2001. All aboard, indeed!
